From June 17 to 19, 2026, the global Social Life Cycle Assessment community gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia, for the 10th S-LCA International Conference. Hosted by Life Cycle Indonesia under the theme “Unity in Diversity,” this milestone event marked the first time the conference was held in the Asia-Pacific region in over two decades.
Beatrice Bortolozzo, CEO of 2B, was there and presented the company’s research work on social communication on consumer products.

Social claims are widespread on shelves but often remain underexplored compared to environmental claims. To address this, 2B developed a framework to assess the credibility of these assertions.
The methodology evaluates claims through ten parameters: five core parameters, essential for credible communication, and five aspirational parameters, designed for companies aiming for advanced levels of transparency. The approach is illustrated through the bicycle metaphor, guiding companies from the “Expert Trail” of compliance to the “Pro Trail” of excellence.
The full research results and our practical guide for companies are available in the brochure: “How to ride through social communication?”.
Throughout the conference, several contributions emphasised the need for stronger policy integration, reliable data and practical tools to make sustainability truly operational. Sebastiaan Stiller (EPD International) highlighted how EPDs are evolving from reporting tools into strategic levers for competitiveness and transparency, also introducing the new Social Product Declarations (SPD).

Claudia Giacovelli (UNEP Life Cycle Initiative) stressed the importance of global data platforms and harmonised methodologies to support sustainability transitions. Finally, Matthias Finkbeiner underlined the urgency of making S-LCA more applicable, reducing theoretical complexity and focusing on pragmatic, high-impact tools.
The overall message of the conference is clear: transforming Life Cycle Assessment approaches into practical instruments capable of supporting better decisions, greater transparency and continuous improvement.
